Food Gallery : The Improvement

More dishes from my kitchen............

I think this looks like "left-over night" with the only fresh food being the fried egg ;)

We had a couple over who were previously from Middle East and they loved our flat which reminded them of home. And with some Malaysian curry....hmmm.....

Burger again but this time with home made fries....does look a bit burnt - maybe that's why the veggies are hiding it :)

When I got back from holiday - a bunch of apples looked like it was going to go bad so I quickly got some puff pastry and ta-da, some home made apple puff

My all time favourite - curry noodles with fish cake and "tau pok"

Roti canai and curry chicken...of course the roti is the frozen type!

Pancakes from Nigella Lawson's recipe - this is more like the American type than the crepe-type

Cream mushroom pasta with roast chicken and basil

Guess what is this?

Yes, my very own "siew yok"
Not too bad a wife now, right....heh,heh......

Food gallery

Those who knows me will know that I am hopeless when it comes to cooking. Having grown up with a maid, then married and moved in with in-laws who had a maid.....get the idea.....

There was 2 years in Australia that I survived mainly through instant noodles and bad, bad cooking. I remember eating breakfast cereal for every meal at one point.

So, when dearest hubby said we'd be living in London one week after I had Josiah. I was too numb to realise how much improvement I needed in terms of my pathetic cooking skills. I had to feed both my boys and myself. So started a painful but exciting journey of culinary delights (or not so delightful! Ask hubby for more honest opinion)

I may not be the best cook around and my menu is not very extensive but for someone who started out barely able to cook rice WITH a rice cooker. Here are some of my accomplishments.

Hee....hee....

Come Dine with Me

:)

Found out early on that roasting chicken was a fail-safe option so we had lots of that in the early days, badly fried veggies were also on my menu most of the time :(

Yikes, check out my version of "ngau hor" or beef hor fun noodles! Looks terrible but hubby says it tastes good. Sigh. Such love.... :)

But don't worry, it got better and with this ensemble of homemade 'char siew', mixed veggie stir fry and omelette.....we started having some actual guests come for dinner. Woo.....

Close up shot of my 'char siew'.... I use a scissors to cut it just like some hawkers in Msia!

Simple pork/beef steak with potato salad and veggies

Home made bacon mushroom carbonara pasta. The sauce is made from scratch from single cream, cheese and lots of bacon! Yummy and unhealthy so this dish has been banned from our menu lately.

Simple hor fun with chicken and yummy 'hock chew' balls (from Msia of course!)

McDonald's the Ow Yang style
......to be continued.....

29 months old : A Snapshot

I remember thinking that people who sit out in the sun must be crazy. Why sit in the sun when there is shade?? After two years in a country that basically only sees nice weather for about 6 months a year......I am living in the park

Yes, routine with Josiah goes like this on a lovely warm day.
1. Wake up
2. Breakfast
3. Pack up bag
4. Walk to park
5. Sit/play/eat in park
6. Nap in stroller
7. Come home only to cook dinner & shower
8. Eat dinner & sometimes visit the park again!
9. Sleep
10. Repeat above every day, soaking up all the sunshine London can offer

Downside to this is obviously the mess in the house from lack of housekeeping. But who cares....the sun is here, enjoy it whilst it lasts.

Plus, I love to see Josiah is shorts and t-shirts, and here he is enjoying the outdoors

Watch out Simon Cowell

With parenthood, you always win some and lose some....when baby is young, it is boring routines of feeding, nappy change and nap. Then as they need less frequent feeding and less nappy change, they start to nap less.

When they cannot move around, it is not as fun as when they are crawling or walking but your house is neater and there is less danger of them hurting themselves.

Finally, when they cannot talk, you can only guess what they want but once they start talking - you cannot control what they are going to say or how loud their voices will be!

You win some and you lose some.

me : ***singing 'If you are happy and you know it...'*****

Josiah : Stop, Mummy, stop singing!!

me : Okay.... *hurt feelings*

Simon Cowell, you have a replacement here! *Presses buzzer*

When he is not criticizing my singing, Josiah spends his days with Thomas the Train.

Check it out.

p/s: Warm weather is gone, rain is here. Everyday. Since last Friday. Sigh. Cabin fever

Happy Tuesday all.

Mummy is an alien

I am the type of person who enjoys my "me time" whilst getting ready in the morning and dislike it when Josiah is around asking questions or poking around the toiletries. But since becoming a mum, I have had to share this precious time with him.very.reluctantly.

The upside to this is he gets to learn a few things about getting ready like brushing teeth, washing face, applying moisturiser (he calls it cream and always asks me for more cream for himself) and putting on my contact lenses.

So I guess I should not have been surprised when he said to me this morning

"Mummy, put on the eyes?" then proceeds to hand me my contact lense solution
.....hmm.......

Watch out for alien Mummy near you......

Happy Tuesday all

p/s: did I mention the weather spiked up to 25C this week :) Happy days.........
